Letter of Invitation for Renewal from the Desk of NARA President:

Dear NARA Members,

As we approach the new member year at NARA, that means membership renewal time.  Like you, I am involved in business operations and have been taking a closer look at our budgets.  More than ever we need to examine our expenses and become more efficient with our financial resources.  This includes the cost of an annual NARA membership.  Some of the things we consider when choosing to renew are:  What did I get for my membership this past year?  And was it worth my investment?  I want to share my take aways from the past year and why Intermountain will be renewing for the 2016-17 year.

I attended our 2 national conferences - the Fall conference in Las Vegas and the Spring conference just last month in DC.  For me, these conferences included information I have been able to implement into my business.  I am educating my providers on the new evaluation codes Helene Fearon reviewed last Fall.  I reviewed my current compliance standards and rewrote several policies with information I received from both Michael Rosen and Bob Soltis.  VGM Forbin provided me with ideas which assisted me in designing a web site for a new product Intermountain is rolling out.  In the past month, I have passed on information to my managers about doing more maintenance therapy with our Medicare patients based on updates received through conferences and eblasts.  My own representative Mia Love signed on as a sponsor for the House legislation to repeal the therapy cap following our visit with her Health Care LA in May.  Just this week, I passed on information to our Home Health Agency about the CMS Pre-Claim Review Demonstration from the information received from George Olsen.  NARA hosted webinars on telemedicine in rehab, current status on outcomes, professional liability and managing PRN employees which have helped prepare me and my staff for future changes and opportunities.  With all these benefits, I value even more what I have learned from my fellow NARA members.  I have received information on compliance, business efficiency and outcomes application just to name a few. To answer my own question, “Yes my membership investment was worth it.”

As we begin the 2016 – 2017 membership year, we are planning for greater growth in several areas. With the launch of new website, we have added an improved Member’s area (log in information will be provided to each member organization as we receive and process your renewal).  This area includes a document library, access to historical e-alerts and past special interest group recordings and handouts.  We are adding links to regulatory resources and websites each day.  We will be scheduling several additional webinars on a variety of topics requested by you.  Our Fall Conference will include a pre-conference to guide on rehab agency certification and re-certification survey.  The conference agenda will include topics on profitability under managed care, pay for performance, outcomes analytics, bundled payments, and more.  This is a conference you will not want to miss!

Christie and I thank all members for being a part of NARA over the past year and we look forward to serving you in the coming year.  We value your feedback so please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or Christie Sheets at [email protected] with any suggestions or questions.
